A variety of both professional and non-professional draftsmen come together to draw, drink and talk merrily. Coming from a desire to draw freely and to work on drawing skills in a fun environment, these nights will be organised more regularly.

The next edition will be on Monday night Februari 20st, starting from 20:00 hrs, in Lab 111 in Amsterdam.

It is not suprisingly that the expectations of the Super Bowl commercials are sky high. Advertisers are having developed expensive Hollywood-like productions and hire the biggest stars.

While most of the games are long forgotten, many Super Bowl commercial are still stuck in our memories. Like the Budweiser 9/11 tribute commercial, the “1984” commercial by Apple, Old Spice “Look at your man” and the CocaCola delivery man trying to steal a can of Pepsi.

The target group of most of the commercials is the ‘though guy’ and so is this year with muscular commercials for brands as Kia and Chevrolet. And just like the Pepsi ad in 1996, the last mentioned is not shunned of ridiculing its rival.

On the website www.onehourpersecond.com you find a great interactive infographic containing a lot of useless facts related to YouTube-time. Did you know that in 7 minutes of uploads to YouTube, the Nyan Cat persists in saying “Nyan” over 6 billion times? Now you know!

And YouTube is also into explanimations, of course. See this infographic video:

Every year, the One Minutes organizes a competition, in which filmmakers can participate. This year they had the following categories:
Performance
Road Movie
Death
Advertising
Moving Photography
Ornament

With these categories in mind I worked out a list of potential idea. We chose the six most realistic ideas. For thesee six ideas I developed storyboards and the best was chosen to be produced as an entry for theoneminute awards .

The next step was to create a shot list, a list of attributes and various locations where we could film.

As a final step, I have edited everything and added the sounddesign. You might like to know that all audio was recorded after shooting the images.

De aanvraag stond onder leiding van de nieuw aangestelde ‘new business developer’ Gjilke Keuning (foto). Assistent-onderzoeker Karen Bosch, die ook in het project zal meewerken, schreef mee.

Het tweejarige onderzoeksproject, met een totaalbegroting van 4,3 ton, zal samen met het werkveld methoden, technieken en kennis ontwikkelen voor het maken van goede infographics, die niet alleen aantrekkelijk zijn maar ook correct en betrouwbaar.

Belangrijke aanleiding voor het onderzoek is dat de vraag naar infographics en datavisualisaties in de markt snel toeneemt. Bedrijfsleven, instellingen, overheden en media zetten deze middelen steeds vaker in om grote hoeveelheden data of complexe informatie – letterlijk – inzichtelijk te maken voor hun doelgroepen. Statistische, economische, demografische en geografische processen laten zich uitstekend met visuele middelen vertellen

Every Picture Tells a Story wordt uitgevoerd in de kenniskring Crossmediale Kwaliteitsjournalistiek die onder leiding staat van dr. Piet Bakker. Carel Kuitenbrouwer (foto) zal de hoofdonderzoeker zijn. Voor het project is een consortium gevormd met BNO, Argumentenfabriek en in60seconds. Daarnaast zullen meerdere mkb-bedrijven, onderzoekers en studenten van de HU aan het project deelnemen. De HU-minor EMD die gewijd is aan infographics en datavisualisaties en onder leiding staat van Gert-Jan Peddemors en Kuitenbrouwer, zal een nauw verband met Every Picture Tells a Story krijgen.

Verder zullen er pilotprojecten worden uitgevoerd, kennis- en uitwisselingsplatforms opgericht en handleidingen en best-practices worden gepubliceerd ten behoeve van het onderwijs en de praktijk van deze boeiende informatie- en communicatiemiddelen.
